You may also need to run a tournament that is held with a multitude of participating schools.

Volunteer will also combine his coaching with some regular or basic teachings like the English as a result having a wider array of experience and enabling you get to know your students even better. Sports coaching volunteers on OGVO Ghana programs provide priceless chances and opportunity for young people to partake and get involved in sports and obtain several benefits related to the playing of sports. Our volunteers work with local sports clubs/organisations and schools in Ghana that organise numerous activities.

Volunteers will combine coaching with English instruction and other useful skills to provide a wide range of experiences for students.

It is certainly possible to use one of OGVO’s programs as part of your university or college placement. Project staff can sign off any paperwork required by your course tutors. OGVO regularly receives medical, childcare, psychology and nursing placement students at our projects in Ghana and we have ties with some of the leading universities.

What will my typical day be like as a football coach in Ghana?

Your working week will be from Tuesday to Saturday, to accommodate weekend games. You will have Sundays and Mondays off to rest and explore.

You will start your mornings with a hearty breakfast in your host family’s home. Twice a week, you will head to the OGVO Office in the morning to meet with local coaches and plan training sessions. You will make use of public transport to get there. Our staff will accompany you on your first day and show you how to get there.

These meetings will also be a useful time to analyze past games and discuss new strategies. The coaches you work with have many years of experience. They can offer you some great insight into local football culture and practice.

As schools close for the day, children will start arriving at the football club between 4pm and 6pm. This is when the fun begins! You will spend the rest of the day teaching a young team and helping them develop basic skills and techniques.

You will be expected to help out at games on certain evenings, but mostly on Saturdays. You may even be asked to act as referee or join a game if a player gets injured. Time spent with the children will provide you with an excellent hands-on football coaching experience while you’re in Ghana.

On Sundays and Mondays, you will have plenty of free time to explore with your fellow volunteers and get to know your host family.
