Description
The Community Liaison will foster deeper relationships with our digital community of human rights defenders (HRDs) and activists and build our capacity to provide practical support. This role will accomplish this by building and strengthening partnerships with community members and organizations, collaborating on internal HRC projects and initiatives, facilitating communications between our community and the HRC team, and other forms of internal and external support. Our core community includes frontline HRDs, activists and organizations who work to promote and protect human rights.
The Lead will play a crucial role developing and growing our network and helping us build our library into a dynamic resource that is more inclusive and responsive to community needs.
Responsibilities
- Develop HRC’s community of human rights defenders (HRDs)
- Create a strategic plan to strengthen engagement with our community of HRDs and activists online and in the field
- Conduct outreach to organizations, frontline HRDs and activists in the field, who comprise HRC’s core community
- Maintain consistent communication with our community of organizations, frontline HRDs and activists in the field
- Help provide practical support for our community of HRDs
- Standardize how HRC incorporates and responds to feedback and suggestions from our users regarding how HRC can respond to community need.
- Provide resource suggestions, organizational referrals and limited technical advice to our community around civil resistance and the human rights framework
- Respond to user inquiries and requests for support on the website
- Facilitating collaboration between HRC and grassroots HRDs
- Facilitate engagement between HRC’s team members and our community for various collaborative projects
- Relay feedback from our audience to the HRC team to align our work with community need
- Develop HRC’s user community by driving traffic to our online platform of human rights and civil resistance resources and tools
- Build the capacity of HRC as a whole to pursue our mission more effectively
- Coordinate with the Digital Community Manager to develop our communications and social media outreach strategically using community feedback
- Facilitate closer collaboration with our community of HRDs in the field
- Facilitate inter-team communications and helping develop our community of HRDs in local contexts
- Relay community feedback to help improve the accessibility of the HRC website UI/UX
- Participate in the development and organizing of the HRC team
- Attend HRC’s All-Hands and Leads Team meetings
- Provide updates to the team regarding the development of HRC’s community and feedback from our community
- Contribute to the strategic planning of HRC’s development and initiatives
Desired Qualifications
- Deep commitment to and enthusiasm for human rights, civil resistance and social justice required
- Willingness to understand the principles and practices of organizing, liberation, intersectionality and anti-oppression required
- Some experience with website or database administration required (Wordpress and Canva proficiency is preferred)
- Experience conducting outreach and fostering relationships required
- Ability to work proactively and independently in a remote organization required
- Effective verbal and written communication skills required
- Excellent project coordination and organizational skills required
- Some background in human rights education, law or advocacy preferred
- Some experience participating in nonviolent action and/or grassroots community organizing preferred
- English proficiency required; additional language ability highly preferred
