Maine Roller Derby (MRD) is Maine’s first women’s flat track roller derby league and a member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). We are based in southern Maine, attracting members from throughout the State. We are a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization that relies almost exclusively on volunteers to bring the sport of roller derby to our community. Our league seeks to foster professional, personal and athletic advancement through the sport of roller derby, while upholding the values of diversity, equity, and inclusivity in both our sport and our communities. Our league strives for continuous improvement in all areas and we are seeing an opportunity for growth.

We are currently seeking a qualified volunteer to fill the Director of Marketing position for MRD. The league will be returning to play after a long period of suspension due to Covid. We will be rebuilding both our current league membership, as well as actively recruiting new members. We also anticipate that we will be soliciting a broader fan base post-Covid, particularly when we begin play in our new venue. The league has many capable members that are willing to assist, but is in need of someone with the experience and vision to not only market our sport, but our values.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Experience in marketing women’s sports
  • Knowledge of software used to create promotional materials (currently using Adobe inDesign, Photoshop)
  • Ability to commit to up to 3-5 hours per week during the regular season (August-May)
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate and enforce deadlines
  • Alliance with the values of diversity, equity, and inclusivity and an ability to communicate those values through marketing.

The position entails:

  • Working with a team to generate routine promotional materials, under strict deadlines
  • Assisting with scheduling and organization of promotional events
  • Working with various committees to broaden our membership and fan base
  • Adherence to MRD’s Code of Conduct

Your participation will provide you with an opportunity to work closely with members of Maine’s roller derby community, while promoting a full-contact sport that nurtures personal growth and community development. We’re a league that highly values our volunteers and you would be an integral part of our team.
