Stoop Stories is a documentary storytelling project based in Brooklyn, NY. Our mission is to connect, support, and celebrate our NYC neighbors, especially those hardest hit by the pandemic and systemic inequities. We celebrate generations of New Yorkers who make stoop culture come to life.

Who we’re looking for: An organized, creative, proactive volunteer to join the Editorial team of our growing documentary project --  StoopStories.com / @Stoop.Stories. Are you a serious wordsmith with compassion and a good sense of humor? Help us share NYC stories and build community engagement. If you want to gain new experience, expand your portfolio, and collaborate with / be mentored by seasoned producers, join our energetic team. 

Please note: time commitment can be discussed (# of hours per week or length of volunteer experience). We are also looking for volunteers for social media/outreach, production, photography and design. If you’d like to get involved in another way, let us know! www.stoopstories.net/volunteer

The ideal candidate has:

  • Passion for writing/editing/storytelling
  • Marketing & Communications and/or Journalism background 
  • Strong familiarity with Interactive/Social Media
  • Brand Development & Messaging experience
  • Experience working with transcription services (e.g. Rev) or willingness to learn
  • Familiarity with newsletter and web software (e.g, Mailchimp, Wix)
  • Capacity to communicate in real-time with our NYC-based team

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Work with Editorial Director to create thought-provoking, timely stories/social content
  • Edit interviews and prep social media posts, tags and hashtags (within caption limits)
  • Interact with our community across social channels (e.g. respond to comments)
  • Assist with generating & distributing newsletters 
  • Help develop editorial programming calendar, keep up-to-date with relevant news and relevant SM accounts
  • Help maintain databases and assets (e.g. DropBox, Google Drive)
  • Work independently and set/meet realistic goals and deadlines
