NorthStar operates under the fiscal auspices of Luke-Dorf Inc so it does not have fiduciary responsibilities fro NorthStar. The Advisory Board was created when NorthStar was founded in 2010 to advocate for NorthStar in the community and help to assure that the program operates faithfully according to Clubhouse International (CI) Standards, through which NorthStar has been accredited. CI is an evidence-based program under the rigorous requirements of the Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. That is to say, that our programs have demonstrated their effectiveness in helping individuals recover from mental health challenges. There are more than 300 such programs throughout the world.
To serve on the Advisory Board is to work with the other current Board members, most of whom are professionals in law, economics, business, psychiatry, and non-profit management. (We are particularly looking for younger members who are active in social media.) All current members have a strong commitment to serving the vulnerable and often stigmatized population of individuals living with and/or recovering from a mental health crisis. In addition to working with the Board, you would get to know the dedicated staff and wonderful NorthStar members.
