Mission​:​ Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) is a private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated

to creating a cleaner, more beautiful region through education and active community

involvement. For over 25 years, KTMB has been dedicated to beautification of the Truckee

Meadows, advocacy for a cleaner community and region, massive volunteer cleanup efforts,

and education that inspires action.

KTMB is one of the founding organizations of One Truckee River (OTR), a new collaboration of

public and private partners working together to realize a Truckee River that flows clear and

clean, quenches our thirst, sustains the river’s natural ecology, cultural resources and wildlife,

and connects residents and visitors to unparalleled opportunities for recreation and


Teaser​:​ The One Truckee River Education and Outreach Coordinator serves to promote

watershed education to all citizens of the community and to organize and collaborate with

existing & prospective stakeholders.

Position Description​: ​The One Truckee River Education and Outreach Coordinator, an

AmeriCorps member, will be an essential member of the OTR/KTMB team while working

side-by-side with Nevada Land Trust. With support from KTMB’s education office, this person

will work to extend opportunities for adult and youth watershed education in the community. The

member will organize and attend outreach events in the community that highlight the mission of

One Truckee River with support from the KTMB/OTR team. Frequent weekend work may be

required. The member will have the opportunity to interact with a wide range of community

partners and inspire the community to learn about and love the Truckee River. This person will

work to foster engagement and maintain relationships with current stakeholders and seek

partnerships with new stakeholders. This position will require 40 hours of service per week, with

Federal/State holidays off, and 2 weeks vacation.

Service Location​: ​Reno, Nevada

Timeline for Service​: ​September 2018-August 2019

Primary Responsibilities​:

● Develop and maintain partnerships with Truckee River watershed stakeholders

● Plan and execute the 2nd annual One Truckee River Month celebration

● Develop watershed education and community involvement opportunities for youth and

adults based on the existing One Truckee River Watershed Education Plan

● Plan and execute a community-wide River Photos contest and exhibition

● Research requirements for Walkable Community (or similar) status

● Maintain data and records relating to the OTR / KTMB programs

● Share OTR/KTMB Watershed Warrior Education program for youth and adult community


● Develop and maintain partnerships with school administrators and teachers;

● Work with community organizations on mission driven initiatives such as dog waste,

green waste, car wash awareness;

● Facilitate supplementary KTMB programs and events for youth and adults


● Passionate commitment to OTR/KTMB mission and vision;

● Bachelor’s degree in education, environmental science, or related field;

● Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;

● Exceptional writing skills;

● Outgoing personality and strong communication skills;

● Flexibility, optimism and a good sense of humor;

● Strong organizational skills;

● High degree of initiative and spirit of service;

● Clean Drivers Licence and reliable vehicle;

● successfully pass a fingerprint background and NSOPW check.

● Preferred: strong understanding of education standards and experience in curriculum


● Preferred: experience with event and volunteer coordination;

● Preferred: experience teaching in formal or informal settings;

● Preferred: experience working for environmental education centers, nature centers,

and/or summer camps;

● Preferred: reading, writing and speaking competency in Spanish language;

● Preferred: communications experience (social media, basic graphic design, and public



AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance of $13,732, a $5,920 education award upon

successful completion of service, healthcare, childcare coverage (for eligible members), and

professional development opportunities throughout their term of service. If the member qualifies,

they will also receive student loan forbearance and interest payments. Housing is not included.
