Volunteer and Internship Coordinator

Position type: Volunteer, part-time. (10-15 hrs/wk)

Candidate Restrictions: Must be an Illinois resident. Citizenship is not a requirement.

Position Description:

This position will work as part of the Humanity First for Illinois Team to support internal partners to maximize Humanity First for Illinois PAC’s presence and impact in moving our progressive governing agenda at the state and local levels. 

The Volunteer and Internship Coordinator will lead the development, management, and implementation of our people management strategy, including overseeing the Humanity First for Illinois Internship Program. The Volunteer and Internship Coordinator will work in close collaboration with the Humanity First for Illinois Leadership Team in creating the leading center for civic engagement in Illinois.

Principal Responsibilities:

Advancing Humanity First for Illinois PAC’s vision and mission through a supported, engaged, and professionalized workforce. Contributing to the development and execution of a people management strategy that enables the Humanity First for Illinois Team to maximize the power of all Illinoisans to advance and win our public policy agenda.

This includes:

  • developing and deploying a comprehensive recruitment plan to address the ongoing needs of the Humanity First for Illinois Internship Program and internal departments;
  • collaborating with the Humanity First for Illinois Public Relations Team to increase awareness with stakeholders to market volunteer and internship opportunities;
  • collaborating with the Humanity First for Illinois PAC Director in the identification and facilitation of external stakeholders to support internship professional development;
  • effectively recruiting, screening, training, placing and overseeing volunteer and intern satisfaction across the Humanity First for Illinois Team for all positions;
  • collaborating with the Humanity First for Illinois PAC Director in the development of a volunteer recognition and enrichment program;
  • maintaining accurate volunteer records;
  • supporting the creation of a safe and equitable work environment, including developing improvement plans and facilitating volunteer dismissal;
  • supporting the development and coordination of internal and external trainings;
  • serving as primary organizational contact for all volunteer and internship inquiries;
  • potentially supervising a team of public relations volunteers and/or interns; and
  • taking other steps necessary to develop and advance Humanity First for Illinois PAC’s state priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with volunteers, teaching, or group facilitation.
  • Experience effectively supervising and developing volunteers is preferred.
  • Experience working as a member of a team required.
  • Experience in representing an organization on issues of importance.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Detail oriented and highly organized.
  • Creative and critical thinking ability required.
  • The ability to produce consistent, quality work in a fast-paced environment is essential.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and to adjust to frequently changing demands.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google G Suite preferred.

Education: Demonstrated experience in people management accepted in lieu of a relevant degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Industrial Organizational Psychology, or other applicable field.

This position reports to: PAC Director or designee.

Travel Requirements: None.

Salary & benefits: This position is a volunteer position. Humanity First for Illinois PAC, as a 527 organization, does not qualify for supporting individual tax deductions for services rendered.

Location: This position can be filled statewide in Illinois.
