Make a real difference in someone's life!
- Volunteer Opportunity posted by Great Lakes Caring of Kansas City, MO
Description
Volunteers are needed to visit with patients and engage them in activities such as playing music, singing, working on a craft project, or simply providing companionship through listening, talking or holding a hand. Volunteers can sometimes provide respite care, allowing family members to take a much needed break or run a few errands.
There are also volunteer opportunities within the Great Lakes Caring Hospice office, assisting staff with mailings, filing, data entry and other special projects.
We are also looking for pet therapy volunteers. These volunteers along with their trained pet companions visit hospice patients in nursing facilities. Dogs must be certified.
Other opportunities include helping serve at our "Tea to Remember" parties in area nursing facilities, and photographing patient's hands with their loved ones in our "Holding Hands Forever" projects.
Hours are very flexible, weekdays, evenings or weekends. Typically, we ask volunteers to visit their assigned patient at least 2 times per month. Background checks, 2 step TB Skin Testing is required and provided free of charge. Full hospice volunteer orientation is also required and provided.
