Description

Chellah is a medieval fortified necropolis located south of Rabat, Morocco. Chellah existed since pre-Christian times and houses complex of ancient Roman Mauretania Tingitana and medieval ruins.

The project is a collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Youth. The international volunteers will get to know this precious ancient heritage and at the same time help with its conservation.

The team will assist the staff working in Chellah with routine tasks such as cleaning grounds, emptying trash, cleaning and preparing the visitor center, sweeping and blowing walkways, and pruning and watering plants, sometimes painting some spaces when allowed. The volunteers will be cleaning the medieval fortified necropolis as a part of its maintenance. The volunteers will also assist in preserving, inventorying and monitoring natural and cultural resources of the Ruins such as plants, animals and archeological sites. They will help cutting the leaves of the trees and with some other gardening activities.


Project period: 2 weeks in July and August 2019
