Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh in partnership with United Way is looking for volunteers to be a Mentor for our Be A Middle School Mentor Program (BAMSM) for the 2018-2019 school year. Mentoring occurs in the following schools: Arsenal, Classical, Science and Technology, Schiller, South Brook, and South Hills. The programs will take place from October through May.

Here is a list of the following BAMSM sites:

Science and Technology (Oakland) – Mondays, 10:30 am to 11:15 am

South Brook (Brookline) – Mondays, 3:50 pm to 5:15 pm

Arsenal (Lawrenville) – Tuesdays, 12:15 pm – 12:55 pm

South Hills (South Hills) – Tuesdays, 4:00 pm to 5:00pm

Schiller (North Side) – Wednesdays, 12:34 pm – 1:22 pm or 1:25 pm to 2:10 pm

Classical (West End) – Thursdays, 3:50 pm – 4:50 pm

Interviews last about one hour. Interviews are strictly confidential. After your interview takes place, BBBS will check your references and your criminal background history. The following clearances are required: Child abuse, Criminal and FBI.  You will then attend the mandatory training session with the Mentoring Partnership. After the training session, you will then be matched with your little, who you will meet in October. Typically, we match mentors with mentees based upon preferences, similarities, and personalities. The site coordinator will present information about the mentee to you for your approval before the 1st day of program.

Every week, mentors and mentees will work on activities around: careers, college ready/Trade school ready, and working with others.
