Wright to Read Assessment Team Member administers assessments using the Pearson DRA2 of all new students placed with a Wright to Read Tutor/Mentor. Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) refers students to us who are reading one grade level or more below their grade level. Most students tested are in grades 1-5.
Wright to Read operates year-round, however most assessments take place within the academic year. The same assessor tests each child twice, shortly after he/she begins the program and the second time six to nine months after the initial assessment.
Each assessment requires approximately 1 hour or less for preparation and 2 hours for administration and feedback to the Tutor/Mentor and the Program Director. Assessors are available by phone or email to support the Tutor/Mentors of the students they have assessed. We estimate an annual time commitment of 4 hours per student and ask volunteers to work with a minimum of 5 students.
Following an initial interview, volunteers attend a 2-hour training, which includes a training video and written material.
Qualifications: Current assessors are active and retired educators, and veteran Tutor/Mentors. We are looking for assessors interested in supporting children’s literacy, with good oral and written communication skills, and attention to detail.
