The President is the Chief Executive Officer of the non-profit corporation and has, subject to the control of the Board of Directors, general supervision, direction and control of its activities and officers. As the organization’s spokesperson, the President provides leadership, strategic vision, and direction. The President serves as an ambassador of the organization and advocates its mission to internal and external stakeholders. 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES REQUIRED FOR THIS VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY


Development

Non-profit Board of Directors must create an active and enthusiastic “culture of philanthropy” to ensure growth, viability and sustainability. The President serves as the chief fundraiser and champions development strategies to promote the Corporation.

 

·      Ensures compliant fundraising and stewardship policies and practices.

·      Executes the fundraising plan to solicit grants, sponsorships, and individual gifts.

·      Actively advises Board of Directors members on carrying out fundraising responsibilities.

·      Meets with major donor prospects from foundations and corporations.

·      Works with the Development Committee and Board of Directors to cultivate and maintain beneficial relationships with donors, funders, supporters, collaborators, allies, vendors, and other stakeholders.

·      Attends fundraising and networking functions.


Accountability / Execution

A sustainable nonprofit must measure its progress in fulfilling its mission, success in mobilizing its resources, program effectiveness, and team productivity.   


·      Monitors and assesses organization and program performance (including their impact), in coordination with the Board of Directors.

·       Partners with the Chief of Staff and Board of Directors to develop and refine impact metrics.

·       Appoints Vice-Chair semi-annually to performs the President’s responsibilities when the President cannot be available.

·       Coordinates with the Executive Assistant on basic support functions, daily administrative tasks, and calendar events.

·       Assesses the performance of the Board of Directors and its committees in coordination with Human Resources and the Chief of Staff.

·       Approves effective external communications about the organization and its mission, priorities, importance, programs, and activities.

·       Keeps the organization’s leadership informed of significant developments and changes in the internal and external environment.


Governance

Good governance is the establishment of policies and procedures, and continuous monitoring of their proper implementation, by members of the governing body of an organization.


  • Ensures the organization’s activities further its mission.
  • Safeguards legal compliance (including all required state and federal filings) and sound risk management practices.
  • Develops, implements, and oversees sound, transparent, and compliant financial management internal controls, including budgeting.
  • Leads the Board of Directors and Executive Committee to carry out its governance functions.
  • Partners with the Chief of Staff and Board of Directors to ensure organizational directives, policies, and resolutions are carried out.
  • Actively guides and supports the organization’s strategic planning process.

·       Authorizes the execution of contracts in coordination with Board of Directors approval.


Duties as Chair of the Board of Directors

  • Sets priorities and creates agendas for meetings of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
  • Presides over meetings of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
  • Reviews and approves monthly minutes and financial reports.
  • Assures ongoing recruitment, development, and contributions of Board of Directors members.
  • Conducts annual Board of Directors performance reviews, surveys, and succession planning activities in coordination with the Chief of Staff.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Degree or training in non-profit management a plus
