Objectives :

As a GED® Tutor, you will be working directly with our students, helping them develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to take the exam and achieve their GED®.  

Duties and Responsibilities :

The Volunteer Tutor is required to: (1) work with an assigned student or group of students functioning within the 4th -12th grade level, providing assistance in one or more academic subject (reading, writing, science, social studies, and/or math); (2) coach the student in identifying resources needed to complete assignments; (3) review completed assignments and suggest ways to improve or supplement assignments; and (4) provide feedback on the student’s progress and encourage student to continue to focus on academic excellence.

Training :

Training and materials for this position will be provided during the orientation session. In addition, the Volunteer Coordinator is available on an ongoing basis to answer questions and provide assistance as needed.

Times Needed and Place of Work :

Volunteer Tutors are needed weekday mornings and afternoons. Shifts last at least one hour, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. All tutoring will take place at West End Neighborhood House, located at 710 N. Lincoln Street Wilmington, DE 19805.

Commitment Required :

A two month commitment is preferred but not required.
