Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange has been finding adoptive homes for children and teens in foster care for over sixty years. Part of the way MARE accomplishes this is by supporting and educating adoptive families throughout the process. The MARE family blog is a landing spot for families to share their experiences with foster care adoption and for readers to empathize, commiserate, relate to, and see ourselves in the stories of others.
We are seeking experienced foster care adoptive families/individuals with talents in writing to contribute to the MARE Family Blog by sharing their stories, experiences, and insights from being an adoptive parent. Writers will submit stories related to adoption 6 times over the course of year, to be reviewed and published to the Family Blog (with attribution and appropriate link-backs to the author's own blog and/or website).
Topics can include a full range of stories: how you decided to adopt, how you met your kids, the waiting, the matching, the building of your family, what you thought it would be like and what it’s really been like. We’re interested in hearing what issues have surfaced for your family: race, religion, culture, birth family (yours and theirs), learning challenges and successes, educating others about adoption, trauma, and your kids.
How To Apply
Email our Director of Family Support Services, Diane Tomaz, regarding your interest in volunteering, along with a sample of your writing.
