Description

OPEN POSITION: VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR at NOURISH

Starting: June 2018, for a duration of 9-12 months (extension is possible)


About Nourish:

Nourish is a community development project, located on the border with the Kruger

Park in Mpumalanga, South Africa. We work with the local, rural communities to uplift and create

a better world for everyone. We work around 5 pillars: education, conservation, sustainable

farming, tourism and economic empowerment.

We often work with oversees volunteers and interns, who come to help out for a few weeks or for a

few months, depending on their program and background, this is who you will be working with.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

- Driver’s license

- People person, love working with people

- Enthusiastic, positive attitude, detail oriented

- Open minded and curious to working with local communities

- Being able to interact with people from different backgrounds

- Excellent problem solving skills

- Good organizational skills

- No ‘9-5’ mentality, being flexible and pro-active

- Excellent english, both written and spoken

- Passion for people, development and conservation

- First aid training is a plus

- Knowledge or background in community development or sustainability is a plus

- Experience in working with volunteers is a plus


RESPONSIBILITIES

As the volunteer coordinator you are end responsible for the entire volunteer program.

Meaning:

- Managing kitchen and housekeeping

- Make weekly shopping list for volunteers

- Follow pre-set menu

- Coordinate with cook and kitchen staff about menu for lunch + dinner

- Make sure housekeeping keeps all rooms and common room clean

- Cook for/with volunteers on Friday evening, when kitchen staff is off

- Volunteer arrival:

- Arrange pick-up logistics with other staff

- Welcome new volunteers

- Show them around Nourish

- Show them their room

- Do the intro talk + presentation + indemnity form

- Volunteer Departure:

- Arrange departure logistics with other staff

- Get feedback form filled-out

- Weekly schedule

- Coordinate schedule of interns (volunteers with a specific task) with other office staff

- Make weekly schedule for volunteers + coordinate and check with management and maintenance

staff

- Come up with tasks and ideas for volunteers to do + help them with it

- Arrange transport for any off-site activities (either drive yourself, or other staff)

- Evening debrief about the plan for the next day

- Organise and implement weekly evening activities (game night, movie night, etc.)

- Take pictures of volunteer activities for social media + ask them for a blog post

- Weekends:

- Give info about weekend activities + help arrange and organize

- Problem solving:

- Contact the right authorities in case of emergency (police, ambulance, etc.)

- Inform management of any problems

- Daily working of the project in case of no volunteers:

- help implement existing and new projects

- Work with maintenance staff on improving the project


Package:

- This is a FREE program

- Accommodation is included, you will be living in rondavels at the Nourish Eco Village, own

room if possible

- Food (3 meals per day at Nourish) included (no alcohol or restaurant meals)

- Transport to all off-site projects

- Car, if available, to use on the weekend for trips with volunteers (always confirm with

management)

- Wifi

- Laundry (except for socks and underwear)
