The mission of the Pima County Public Library (PCPL) is to transform lives by educating, inspiring, and connecting people. PCPL is committed to serving the literacy needs of the residents of Pima County and continues to build strong community partnerships to create cross-spectrum learning opportunities in collaborative settings.


This project will provide best practices and a sustainable framework for obtaining a high school diploma while incorporating aspects of business and career development services at the library. The goal of the project builds community capacity by providing opportunity to disadvantaged adults in order to affect long-term change to family stability through improved workforce development, education, and support. The Career Online High School Specialist will assist students in developing career and academic plans, help them navigate resources, and monitor and evaluate their progress.




A.  Career and Goal Readiness Coaching: The AmeriCorps State member will learn and implement best practice measures to ensure student success in obtaining their high school diploma. They will also help complete initial self-assessment reviews for potential students and conduct candidate screenings and interviews for scholarship eligibility. Additionally, they will initiate orientation with the academic coach and facilitate student intakes.


B.  Student Progress Evaluation: The State member will conduct a midpoint check to ensure students are meeting minimum progress expectations and verify student completion prior to the end of the probationary period. They will also identify students that will be allowed to continue in the program and work with students that are in jeopardy of losing their scholarships.


C.  Student Resource Training and Evaluation: The State member will conduct student progress reports and schedule and conduct student training workshops and meet-ups. They will also assist with student transition after they complete the program by connecting students with workforce and academic opportunities. In addition, they will develop an evaluation method for the program.

A.  Education, Skills and Abilities


Minimum qualifications:

o  Age 17 or older

o  Ability to work as a part of a team

o  Experience in program management including the creation and implementation of a

    communications and marketing plan

o  Experience working with adults in an educational environment

o  Experience working with diverse populations and cultures

o  Data analysis including experience using Microsoft Excel and survey tools

o  Strong written and verbal communication skills

o  Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team setting in a consistent, energetic, and positive manner

o  Effective problem-solving skills

o  Ability to understand the "big picture" while completing detail oriented tasks

o  Friendly and effective interpersonal skills

o  Fluency in another language is a plus


AmeriCorps State Member Benefits (900 Hour)

●    $6,265 living allowance during term of service

●    Upon completion of service, part-time (900 hour) AmeriCorps members receive a $2,907.50 education award that can be applied to educational costs or student loans

●    Members participate in 10 (2-hour) trainings that qualify them for a Certificate in Civic Leadership and 4 college credits from Prescott College

●    Team support and coaching
