Time Commitment

Full time (30+ hrs/wk)

Short-Term (few weeks/months)

The main aim of the project is to highlight the importance of volunteering and cooperative work in the conservation of nature. The project seeks to contribute to the preservation of the cultural and natural heritage of Montemor-o-Novo by creating trails along Almansor River in order to provide access to watermills along the river.

To accomplish these goals, participants will engage in several tasks: designing, cleaning and marking trails; cleaning of the surroundings of the watermills; designing a tourist information map in several languages; cleaning of river banks; cutting invasive plant species, etc.

Participants will have the opportunity to get to know local history and heritage (namely the Castle of Montemor-o-Novo), take part in local gastronomy workshop, wool workshop, ceramics workshop, visit Grutas do Escoural and local museums, go to the swimming pool, Comporta beach, visit Évora (world heritage).

Location: Montemor-o-Novo is a municipality in the district of Évora in the middle of the Alentejo region of Portugal. Is located 100 km from Lisbon (the capital of Portugal) and from the coastline, where we can find beautiful beaches. Montemor-o-Novo is also located 30 km from Évora which is a UNESCO World Heritage City. This town is quiet and peaceful, a great place to enjoy the rural landscapes and good food.
