Description

Resources to Inspire Students and Educators needs dedicated mentors to work with college bound students who attend underserved neighborhood schools in Wards 5, 7, and 8, helping them with their college selection and application process. We primarily need need mentors to work with seniors who are working on their college and college scholarship applications, until the spring of 2018.

The mentoring program is part of RISE's College Prep program, where students also receive training for the SAT or ACT and visit up to a dozen colleges out of town. Some of the colleges on RISE trips include: Guilford College, Clark Atlanta, North Carolina A&T, Norfolk State, Virginia State, Potomac State, and Temple University.

Mentors are expected to meet with their students at least once a month and be in contact with them weekly. Meetings can be at school or at another, mutually convenient site. Training will be provided, and there will be support throughout the program. In addition to helping students with their college and financial aid application process, the mentors will be expected to help students stay focused in school, including participating in extra-curricular activities and enrolling in as challenging a curriculum as possible. This is an opporturnity to change a student's life as well as your own!
