Goal of the position: We are seeking volunteers to help prep food and/or cleanup during our monthly Community Meals event. The purpose of the meals is to host a session where food bank guests can voice their concerns, needs, and desires for our food bank, our city, and our food system. In addition we have guest speakers that come in to discuss assistance programs that are available to our food guests. We welcome you to stay for the meal and get to know our food guests.

Time Required:

Hours: Prep = 10:30-12:30pm  Cleanup = 1:30-2:30

Length of Commitment: Minimum 2 times

Positions Available: 2

Position Availability: January 11th, February 8th, March 8th, April 12th

The meals take place at the Hillman City Collaboratory. They have a fully functioning and stocked kitchen.


- Prepare salad dish for meal (items will be provided)

- Heat up any "hot" dishes before meal

- Prep dishes, silverware, cups, serving utensils, water jugs, table clothes on cart before the meal

- Help setup tables and chairs for our guests

- Help set the table for our food guests

- Bring out food to table

- Clean up plates and dishes at the end of the meal

- Help box up leftovers to take home or donate to the Collaboratory

- Wash dishes, plates, silverware, cups (they have an industrial dish washer to help)

- Put away chairs, clean tables before putting them back, sweep 

Skills Needed:

  • Punctual, dependable, enthusiastic, flexible and positive attitude
  • Outgoing and enjoys working with people and helping clients
  • Must be able to work in both calm and fast-paced environments
  • Comfortable with diverse populations
  • Love of food and interest in community development and social justice
  • Experience working in restaurants is a plus but not necessary!
