About TEDMED

TEDMED is the independent health and medicine edition of the world-famous TED conference, dedicated to “ideas worth spreading.” TED Talks have been viewed online over two billion times around the world. TEDMED is a 501(c)(3) Public Charity.

Created by TED’s founder, TEDMED convenes and curates extraordinary people and ideas from all disciplines both inside and outside of medicine in pursuit of unexpected connections that accelerate innovation in health and medicine. Best known for our annual event, TEDMED is a year-round global community.

The TEDMED Stage Program features visionary thinkers and doers who we believe could powerfully transform the worlds of health and medicine. The topics addressed on our stage span from cutting edge biomedical research to humanities and the arts.

Research Scholar Qualifications

TEDMED seeks passionate and objective individuals to assist us in evaluating and vetting nominations for the TEDMED Stage Program. We’re seeking evaluators from across the biomedical spectrum (including, but certainly not limited to, faculty members, post-docs, graduate students, medical students, public health professionals, science journalists, portfolio directors, or early- to mid-stage investors and advisors).

This year we are seeking Scholars whose areas of expertise fall into the following categories:

Science & Technology: stem cell biology/regenerative medicine, nanotechnology & microfluidics, imaging, health-oriented robotics, food science and security, climate science/environmental health, sensor technology, medicine & health apps, genomics, big data, data security, privacy.

Health Care Delivery: medical error, faster adoption of better practices, new models of care, end of life care, accessibility to quality care, caregiving, mobile and digital health, new payment models, patient-doctor communication.

Disease Categories: cancer, neurodegenerative disease, neurological disease, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular disease, mental illness, obesity, substance abuse, chronic diseases, infectious diseases, pediatrics, reproductive & sexual health, disability, physical rehabilitation, injury prevention.

Public Health: population health, epidemiology, health equity, health disparities, determinants of health, environmental/structural health, global health.

Innovation/Startup & Entrepreneurship: venture capital, incubators, accelerators, inventors, biotech & life sciences, public health, digital and mobile health, health IT/systems, startup advisors, healthtech advisors, innovation centers, therapeutics, medical devices.

Responsibilities

Review approximately 10-15 nominations during the months of August/September 2019. (Click to view sample review form.) The estimated time required for each review is 1-2 hours. The reviews may come to you on a rolling basis, and there may be opportunities to do additional reviews later this summer and fall.

In exchange for your contribution, we will recognize you as a TEDMED Research Scholar on our website, in our event program guide, and on our social media platforms. All of our Research Scholars will also receive free access to the TEDMED 2020 event Livestream.

Further, a select number of Scholars who contribute the most comprehensive and highest quality reviews will be invited to participate onsite at TEDMED 2020, where they will take on a special role supporting Speakers and community discussions. TEDMED does not financially cover travel or lodging for these select Scholars, but will provide a complimentary ticket (value $4,950) to attend the event, which will be held from March 2-4, 2020 in Boston, MA.
