The Volunteer’s Role


The overall purpose of this placement is to support the Foundation in identifying funding opportunities which will in turn enable them to engage its surrounding communities in a more impactful way.

Working in collaboration with the President of the Foundation to whom you will report, you will have responsibility for researching, identifying, preparing and submitting of grant proposals to local and international grant/ donor agencies and the development of fundraising activities in line with the needs of the organization and/or its programs. Joytown is working towards implementation of community programming related to entrepreneur development and sustainable farming.

As a volunteer, you will support JoyTown Foundation in building its capacity to becoming a robust, sustainable social enterprise through identifying and procuring needed resources and supporting staff training in resource mobilization which will in turn increase their impact on the community and its young people.

As a volunteer, you will:

-Develop a grant/ fundraising strategic plan through research & consultation with staff

-Assist in resource mobilization and grant funding for programs

-Support robust research into funding opportunities in the market

-Assist with writing and submitting grants

-Provide capacity building workshops for knowledge transfer to staff on successful grant writing

-Creating/designing grant writing templates

- Enterprise initiatives researched and identified

Essential Academic Qualifications:

- University/Tertiary degree in nonprofit manAs the Dietician Advisor, you will support the efforts of the Regional Health Management Team (RHMT) in improving their knowledge of translating the science of nutrition into everyday information about food to improve the health and well-being of patients and clients. With the help of RHMT members, you will be able to provide advice and counselling about diet, food and nutrition. Your work will also include enhancing the use of evidence coupled with good judgment about the clients' or communities’ unique values and circumstances to determine guidance and recommendations. You will work in a variety of settings, but the majority of the time you will be working with the department of nutrition in the region.

As a volunteer, you will:

-Provide advisory services to the RHMT so that it is able to provide dietary services in accordance with local guidelines, laws and regulations

-Help the RHMT in developing nutrition plans and implement interventions based on the health status of patients and communities

-Support in the delivery of client nutrition recommendations to physicians, nurses and aides

Essential Academic Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or related field

Essential Professional Background:

-At least two years of related experience

-Excellent interpersonal skills

-Experience with data entry and data analysis

-Strong problem solving, project management and organization skills

Support Package

- Cuso International assessment day (Candidates must cover the first $200 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and all accommodation costs).

- Travel and accommodation for the five-day pre-departure training course and for in-country orientation

- Bonus: Additional return flight home or cash in lieu after 12 months of service for volunteers who extend for another 6 months
