The Position 

Youth Crime Watch of Liberia is seeking to recruit a highly motivated Gender Coordinator  to join its Gender Desk Team. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of a high quality programme that has at its centre a commitment to ensure that poor young women benefit  from development efforts. The Gender Coordinator will provide strategic input and support on gender across the work of the organization and will work within objective teams to ensure that gender equality is mainstreamed within those areas. He/She will undertake analytical and advocacy work with the Gender Coordinator to deliver specific measures, especially in the area of gender based violence. 


Overall responsibility 

To contribute to the achievements of objectives and results set out in the Organization Strategy by leading on the development, coordination, implementation and monitoring of the organization’s gender action plan with a priority on ensuring that women’s economic empowerment is advanced through the organization’s programme and contributing to an effective national and local response to gender based violence. 

Responsibilities:

ü Assume primary responsibility for daily management of YCWL Gender Desk and relevant parts of the program - both organizational and substantive matters – budgeting, planning and general monitoring of projects in close collaboration with Programme Manager;

ü Help mobilize or formulate legal means to source support for the sustainability of gender-related programs that the institution is involved with  

ü Monitor and report on YCWL’s gender activities and recommend adjustments where necessary   

ü Ensure dissemination of information and knowledge management for effective program implementation,

ü Ensure adherence to the program work plan, prepare revisions of the work plan

ü Coordinate relevant program activities towards achieving expected results in accordance with the Program/project related documents 

ü The Coordinator shall work along with both local and international volunteers to attract funding for the continuation of projects.  

ü Organize programs (retreats, assemblies, sports, etc)

ü Coordinate YCWL females’ scholarship programs    

ü Work within the development team, in particular the Be the Change Academy project, Girls in ICT, Girls in Charge to ensure that a sound gender analysis informs programme design and management, and identify strategic actions to be undertaken to improve the quality of programme implementation 

ü Provide advice on appropriate gender sensitive indicators in the performance measurement framework and support colleagues in the monitoring and reporting of programme results/outputs and objectives against agreed indicators. 

ü Support Gender Desk team to monitor and report on the implementation of the gender action plan

ü Help develop and maintain positive working relations with a wide network of partners, including Government, development partners, parliament, media and NGOs. 

ü Represent the organization at Government and/or relevant development partner meetings, including the Gender Development Partners Group and prepare briefing  for the Executive Director  as required 

ü Oversee the management of YCWL female training activities including staff, beneficiaries and assets and ensure maintenance   

ü Will assist in drafting monthly and quarterly program progress reports, as well as any other reports requested by the Executive Director/Program Manager and donors;

ü Ensure a good working relationship between YCWL and other organizations and partners in progress. 

ü Create opportunities for young women benefiting from YCWL activities to enable them to realize their full potentials and to live dignified lives.  

ü Ensure broad-based participation, dissemination of issues affecting the rights of women and children;

ü  Create online blogs, newsletter on various social networks 

ü Undertake other responsibilities which may be assigned from time to time, including contributing to organization communications and events 

ü Perform other tasks incidental to the job

Relevant Skills Requirement: 

ü At least an Associate Degree in any of the social sciences with good knowledge in gender issues. Bachelor Degree is an added advantage.  

ü  Computer literacy including Microsoft Office software, emails, internet 

ü Excellent project management skills. Ability to partner across multiple organizations and to build credibility with engineering and business teams   across the division. 

ü Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.

ü Treats all people without favoritism

ü experience in facilitating roundtables and platform discussions and working with local communities

This volunteer opportunity is unpaid and volunteers are responsible for their travel to and back from Liberia and also expected pay a minimum fee for their feeding and accommodation. Both feeding and accommodation will cost 200 USD a month at our volunteer guest house and work related transportation will be covered by the organization. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to write grants for projects and when funding is acquired we can use it to decrease the monthly payment or even provide a stipend.
