The California Safe Corps program is an AmeriCorps service opportunity sponsored by the American Red Cross. Our program's mission is to make vulnerable communities more resilient, and to empower citizens to take necessary steps to be prepared for disasters.

We currently have openings at the San Fernando Valley, West LA, Santa Monica, Commerce and Long Beach offices.

This AmeriCorps role has three primary focuses:

  • Support the preparedness of community members, particularly under-served populations, through the facilitation and delivery of preparedness training, CPR/First Aid instruction and Sound the Alarm events.
  • Respond to local emergencies as an active member of the Disaster Action Team. The member will also support, mentor and train volunteers to respond as members of the Disaster Action Team.
  • As a Disaster Responder, members will be expected to be on-call to respond to local emergencies for multiple 12-hour shifts each week and various weekends throughout their term of service.
  • Support the recovery of community members and families who have been affected by disasters such as house fires and other local emergencies.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be available to serve full-time for the duration of the service term (September 2018 - July 2019)

  • Able to pass a criminal background check
  • At least 18 years of age

  • Passionate about sharing new ideas that will help to offer resiliency to vulnerable communities.
  • Friendly, confident, and enjoy educating others through outreach and presentations.
