Description

You can be the difference in the life of a local youth by becoming a community-based mentor!

Partners Mentoring Youth is seeking volunteers to become positive role models to youth facing challenges in their personal, social, and academic lives. The need is high--we currently have over 100 youth waiting for a mentor (some have been waiting for more than a year) for a mentor, but more importantly a friend.

Our program creates intentional one-to-one matches between volunteers and local youth, and we support these partnerships as they find activities to do together, build trust in their relationship, and set and accomplish goals together.

Mentoring is a well-documented and effective strategy in positive youth development. After a year in our program, our youth show an:

  • Increase in academic achievement
  • Increase in self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Less delinquent behavior and drug use
  • Stronger bonds with adults other than their parents
  • Increase in ability to plan for the future
