About the program:
SELAL (Stanford Environmental Leadership and Language) Program is developing a model to make environmental leadership, sustainable rural economic development, and English as a second language accessible to youth in the cantons of Osa and Golfito. This program is a part of the Osa and Golfito Initiative (INOGO) which works collaboratively with Costa Ricans in local communities, government, the private sector and NGOs on issues related to sustainable development (http://inogo.stanford.edu/). SELAL aims to provide the youth of Osa and Golfito with greater access to employment within the local economy, which is primarily ecotourism and other nature-based activities. Throughout the program students have the opportunity to interact with local leaders and business people as well as participate in several field trips to local businesses in the tourism sector.
This volunteer opportunity will focus specifically on providing English lessons to high school students with other activities related to environmental leadership being performed as needed.
