Help Others as a Volunteer Tax Preparer 

 

United Way of Northern New Jersey and our community partners* work together to offer free tax preparation across our communities to help ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) and low-income households during tax season. Using our service, clients: 

 

• Save up to $270 in fees from accountants or for-profit tax preparation companies

• Claim tax credits they might otherwise miss like the Earned Income Tax Credit

• Receive education and information about savings programs to help them weather financial emergencies

• Increase the dollars available to spend in our communities while decreasing the need for support services

In addition to helping our neighbors in need to get ahead, as a Volunteer Tax Preparer you will also enjoy significant personal benefits! 

 

• Receive free training and support to become certified by the IRS

• Learn to prepare both federal and state tax returns using easy-to-master software

• Build skills and experience to help your résumé shine, including customer service, interviewing, data entry, quality assurance, and organizing and managing sensitive data

• Enjoy flexible hours and a choice of locations for your volunteer commitment

• Earn continuing education credits if you are a financial professional
