Organization Description

Founded in 2005, Paso Pacífico aims to restore and protect endangered dry tropical forest and coastal ecosystems in Nicaragua. By working with local communities, landowners, and partner organizations, we restore and protect the habitats that form building blocks for wildlife corridors. Paso Pacífico is led by Executive Director and Ashoka Fellow Sarah Otterstrom.

Job Description

We are looking for a communications intern to write weekly blog posts which will be posted to the Paso Pacifico’s website. This intern will be responsible for reviewing grant reports, project reports, and new publications in order to write engaging and topical content. An ideal applicant will have strong research skills and must be a talented writer. Those looking to gain experience in writing content for an established organization are encouraged to apply. This is an unpaid internship.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Review grant reports, publications and project reports
  • Write weekly blog posts for the website
  • Assist in content organization
  • Compile gathered information into a ‘Conservation Library’

Required Skills and Characteristics

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Software (Excel, Office)
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Positive attitude, creativity, and willingness to learn
  • Pays attention to detail

Preferred Skills and Characteristics

  • Spanish (basic to fluent)
  • Background knowledge in issues of biodiversity conservation and community development
  • Previous Research experience
