At Civic Works’ Elder Services, we believe that older adults are a vital and valuable part of a strong community. We have aimed to offer Baltimore’s elders practical services and information essential to healthy and successful living since 2008. We know that helping older adults live better will make our neighborhoods safer stronger and more vibrant for residents of all ages. Introduced in April 2015, Civic Works has recruited volunteers to make repairs in our senior clients’ homes. These volunteers, part of the Handypeople Program, are making small repairs--changing light bulbs, painting walls, and fixing handrails. Although these repairs are small, the impact they have in homeowners lives are big. The Handypeople Program is part of a fall prevention initiative which makes homes safer for older adults to live in. Thanks to the dedication of these long-term, trained volunteers, we are able to continue providing service to our clients so they can age safely and comfortably in place.
