We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who love the arts, the neighborhood, or just generally care about supporting the artist community in Gowanus. Specifically, most volunteers will be greeters for our map distribution locations during Gowanus Open Studios on October 21st and 22nd. You will answer basic questions and greet guests. You may also be asked to help with a few other tasks like inflating balloons, distributing materials between locations, etc.

What is Gowanus Open Studios?

For one weekend each year, artists working in the former factories, warehouses and studio buildings in Gowanus invite the public to visit their studios, see their work, and talk about their process. Last year 350 artists welcomed over 5,000 visitors into their studios. GOS is presented by Arts Gowanus, a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.

How does it work?

Visitors create their own self-guided tours during this FREE event. Our website will feature all participating artists with samples of their art. Visitors can select artists to visit by perusing our website and/or pick up a map at one of our designated map distribution locations. Balloons and signs will identify each open studio building. Everyone is welcome.

Our mission at Arts Gowanus is to support, promote, and advocate for artists and a sustainable local arts community. We are best known for organizing Gowanus Open Studios every October. We also bring public art installations to the neighborhood, offer professional workshops for artists, strengthen the network of artists in the community, and work with local businesses to collaborate and support the arts. Gowanus is a very special place and we want to make sure artists remain here far into the future.

We welcome
