Castanheira de Pêra
In June of 2017, wildfires near Pedrogão Grande destroyed almost 500 homes, 141 000 hectares of land and killed 64 people in central Portugal. The forest fires of 2017 were the country’s most deadly fires of all time and destroyed over 372 jobs leaving this area even more abandoned.
The aim of this project is to help fire victims who have lost all their possessions in the fires. The volunteers will work on public and community infrastructures in the affected villages by painting fountains and chapels as well as reforestation. The volunteers will mostly work together but in specific tasks the group will be divided in smaller groups to work in different places simultaneously.
