BE A VOLUNTEER MENTOR in Bayshore Christian Ministries’ StreetWorkz, a program designed to meet the needs of youth in grades 6-8 in the East Palo Alto community. Volunteers attend on Thursdays, from 6:30pm-8:30pm,

Middle school is a time when kids start facing more difficult choices and begin testing their limits. Discovering who they are, youth start pushing back against authority figures. In their relationships with peers, they feel the power of influences. In StreetWorkz, our desire is for the youth to grow as unique, healthy teens, without succumbing to the unhealthy pressures that exist around them. We do this by mentoring and creating avenues for them to meet God and know His presence in their everyday challenges.

On Thursday evenings, Mentors gather with StreetWorkz students for dinner, Bible study, and games. Following a curriculum, volunteers lead and guide 4-5 students in small groups. As mentors grow positive relationships with the students, they may feel free to connect with the youth outside of the weekly gatherings. Special events, such as monthly outings and a yearly retreat, keep our youth excited and engaged.

“Working with StreetWorkz continually renews my faith. God shows up in the most unexpected ways, and it is amazing to see how the raw gospel impacts the students’ lives. Seeing how the StreetWorkz staff invest and pour into the lives of students during the weekly gatherings and beyond has shown me how to realize our call to love mercy, do justice, and walk humbly.” --StreetWorkz Mentor
