The Hunger Project’s 2017 Annual Fall Gala – Ending Hunger: Unleashing the Human Spirit

Every autumn The Hunger Project, a strategic, international, non-profit organization committed to a world where every woman, man and child leads a healthy, fulfilling life of self-reliance and dignity, hosts a fall gala and corresponding side-events. On this occasion, we will also celebrate The Hunger Project’s 40th Anniversary and the breakthroughs we have caused so far.

During the last 40 years, The Hunger Project has generated the global commitment to end hunger and pioneer strategic programs to empower women, men and entire communities across Africa, South Asia and Latin America. We also strove to transform the deeply entrenched gender discrimination that gives rise to hunger and worked to scale-up our strategies with the support of a cutting edge monitoring and evaluation system. And this has been in time for us to champion the world’s commitment to end world hunger by 2030.

This year’s events will take place the weekend of October 21st and 22nd at both Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers and W Union Square Hotel. At our main evening gala — Ending Hunger: Unleashing the Human Spirit nearly 500+ people from various countries will come together to celebrate this 40-year journey highlighting critical issues surrounding chronic hunger and global poverty.

We are looking for enthusiastic, committed individuals who would like to be a part of these extraordinary events. Volunteer opportunities include: venue décor, greeting and directing guests, registration, preparing materials, entertainment and speaker support, collecting pledges, and a variety of other crucial event elements. With a Global Office staff of less than 20 people, The Hunger Project relies on top-notch volunteers to create successful events year after year.

Volunteers will be needed for a variety of shifts from 9am-midnight on Saturday, October 21st and 9am-3pm on Sunday, October 22nd. Assignments will be based on the volunteer’s availability and skills with most shifts lasting 4 to 5 hours.

All volunteers are required to attend a one hour orientation meeting (offered 6:30pm on Thursday September 21st, 11:00am on Saturday September 23rd, 6.30pm on Tuesday October 3rd and 6.30 on Thursday October 5th) held at The Hunger Project’s Global Office, 5 Union Square West, 7th Fl., New York – located between 14th and 15th Street across from Union Square.
