School renovation, education and counselling for children in Central Uganda

Volunteers in this project will support a Primary School in Buikwe district, east of Kampala. The main activity among the community around is fishing. The project was started by community members to provide education to children of fishermen. The school population is growing at a fast rate. The student-teacher ratio is 70:1. The school currently has 500 students and no permanent structures. Through this project we intend to mobilize the community and improve the quality of teaching in the school.

Volunteers will be teaching students in the classroom and working with the school management to improve the status of the school and awareness on heritage issues and educational support. The volunteers will also provide guidance and counselling; environmental conservation activities; and coordination of environmental club activities. Some painting and construction help around the school will be also needed.

Duration of the project: 1 to 12 months. The program is running throughout the year.

Location: The school is located in Buikwe district in the Central Region of Uganda.
