Job Overview: The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist recruits, qualifies, interviews, and hires new applicants. The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist completes paperwork related to employee relations, payroll, and health benefits. The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist helps guide employees through policies and procedures and answer relevant questions. The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist develops key relationships among all communities. The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist will provide resource guidance and build trust among communities.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist implements the strategic goals and objectives as determined by the Board of Directors.
  • The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist participate in collective decision making within an open and flexible environment.
  • The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist will recruit, hire, and train new staff and volunteers.
  • The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist is involved in all the paths and journeys. However, the Personnel and Empowerment Specialist   falls under M1Path.
  • The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist provides direct services, community education, and training as determined within the team.
  • The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist double-checks the correctness and completeness of all personnel documents.
  • The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist ensures the accuracy of salary data and personnel records, making changes when needed. When a new applicant is being considered for a position, personnel specialists make sure all forms are completed and verify relevant information.
  • The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist provides excellent customer service.
  • The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist is expected to reflect Mission1Race’s values and messaging.
  • The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist will attend all required meetings.
  • The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist enters data into payroll contracts, process information changes, and delete old files.
  • The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist serves as a support to management and staff is another key responsibility of personnel specialists.
  • The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist will respond to all regular communications within 48 hours.
  • The Personnel and Empowerment Specialist will respond to all high-priority outreach within 24 hours.

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of Human Resource policies to discuss wages, working conditions, and their employer’s business model.
  • Experience in handling payroll transactions and background financial work is a routine task for personnel specialists.
  • High-level strategic thinking and planning.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to donors, volunteers, and the overall community.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.
  • Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies, and volunteers.
  • Accessible and effective in dealing with people at all levels in the organization.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking ability.
  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.

Physical Responsibilities and Duties:

  • This position requires 8 – 12 hours a week of donated hours.
  • This position requires speaking and hearing.
  • Frequent typing and writing are customary.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at certain times.
  • Strong public speaking ability.
