Description
Volunteers Make it Work
THE REWARDS OF REACHING OUT ARE MANY.
Our network of volunteers helps members accomplish their goals. In addition to our own members, our cadre of volunteers is a multi-generational group of kind-hearted, civic-minded individuals. There are local high school and college students, and individuals who volunteer through our postings on local non-profit websites such asIdealist.org, Volunteer Match, Volunteer Center and Christian Volunteering.
We screen volunteers with in-depth reference checks, as well as background checks through Intellicorps, a national database for criminal records. All volunteers attend a basic two-hour training session.
Common volunteer activities:
- Driving
- Computer assistance
- Personal service assistance such as shopping, cleaning, laundry
- Companions for the movies, concerts, friendly callers and visitors, etc.
- Transition to Home (Help after a hospitalization such as a ride home, ensuring there’s food in the fridge or a ride to a follow-up doctor’s appointment).
- Group Volunteer Activities
A DAY OF SERVICE
Arrange a Saturday Day of Service with your friends, co-workers or family members. Working with SFV Staff, we will choose a Saturday Day of Service where your group can volunteer to help SF Village members cross a few things off those pesky to-do lists in their homes. You'll help with activities like flipping mattresses, climbing ladders to change lightbulbs, pruning gardens, dusting bookshelves, laundry assistance and technology assistance. This is a great opportunity to help someone in need while making new friends.
