The Colibrí Center for Human Rights is recruiting Board members! We are a young and growing nonprofit, still transitioning from operating as a fiscally sponsored project to a fully independent nonprofit organization. We are looking for individuals willing to make a minimum one-year commitment (and we hope you will serve multiple terms!) to serve on the Board as we continue to build and implement structures and policies to operate effectively, ethically, and independently. We are especially looking for board members with a finance or accounting background.
Responsibilities: The Board meets quarterly (once per year in person in Tucson; the rest by videoconference). Between meetings, members serve on committees (currently including a budget committee and a fundraising committee), fundraise in their own networks and communities, raise awareness of border and migration issues, and consult with one another and with the staff as needed. The Board is responsible for setting the organization's governing policies, as well as ultimately overseeing its budget and ensuring that the organization carries out its mission effectively and complies with all relevant legal obligations. In addition, Board members are expected to "give or get" an annual contribution of $500, which may be accomplished through any combination of personal donation and fundraising.
Qualifications: The Board is especially in need of individuals with experience or expertise in accounting or financial management and individuals with prior experience on nonprofit boards. Board members should be committed and interested in actually investing time and energy in developing the organization. Physical location in the Tucson area is helpful but not required.
