SOAR Immigration Legal Services, a program of Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon, is seeking a volunteer Citizenship ESOL Instructor to bring their classroom experience and English teaching skills to our citizenship class in Portland this summer! This class is every Monday from 6:00-8:45 PM from September 9th to December 2nd at the Tualatin Public Library. The classes are open to all levels of English proficiency. Help adult immigrants and refugees in your community build the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to gain U.S. citizenship!

Our Citizenship classes are designed to prepare residents for the U.S. Citizenship test, which includes an evaluation of speaking, reading, and writing abilities in English, as well as questions about U.S. history and civics. You will support students in language development, facilitate preparation for all components of the USCIS naturalization interview and exam; demystify form N-400, the application for citizenship; and prepare learners to succeed during their naturalization interview. Training, lesson plans, textbooks, and additional learning materials are provided. One year of adult education and English teaching experience and/or M.A. or M.Ed. in TESOL/TEFL or TESOL/TEFL certification required. No foreign language skills necessary- just bring your enthusiasm, patience, and commitment to the full class session. Join us today and help to prepare new American citizens! Contact Angie Kelly at akelly@emoregon.org or call (503) 384-2482 ext. 116. More information about SOAR is on our website at soarlegal.org and at Facebook.com/SOARlegal.
