CARING UNLIMITED HOTLINE VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION


Qualifications: Sensitivity to the issues of intimate partner and family violence and abuse towards women, children and men. Hotline volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, have the ability to work with individuals in a non-judgmental and supportive way. It is preferred that volunteers have an awareness of the social/political aspects of violence and feminist principles. Must have reliable transportation and telephone. Commitment to covering scheduled hotline shifts. Successful completion of Caring Unlimited’s Hotline Advocacy 40 hour training is necessary before providing any direct service.


Reports To: Hotline Program Coordinator


Duties and Responsibilities:

Returning all calls forwarded by the answering service to your home or cell phone within 10 minutes during your shift. Provide support and information as well as making appropriate referrals for callers. Transporting women and children to shelter when necessary and completing all intake information. Provide and update CU with a current Declarations page for proof of auto insurance. Pass a Criminal, Child Protective and Motor Vehicle background checks (paid for by CU). Seeking information and support from staff backup as necessary. Maintain statistical information as necessary.


Hours: 

Shifts during the hours of 9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm Mon-Fri are mostly filled by paid staff. All overnight shifts are 5pm to 9am the next morning. Weekend shifts are Saturday and Sunday 9am-5pm. Volunteers are asked to make a one-year commitment and complete two to four overnight or weekend shifts a month.

It is ESSENTIAL that the hotline be answered at all times; therefore, if you are unable to fulfill your scheduled hotline shift, it is important that you find a replacement from the call list and notify the volunteer coordinator immediately.

Our next scheduled hotline advocate training begins March 6, 2018 and classes are twice a week for five weeks, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6-8:30pm (some sessions may go until 9pm). Upon completion of this comprehensive 40 plus hour training, volunteers can choose weekday nights or weekends to answer calls from our 24 hour hotline in the comfort of their own homes.
