Organization Description

Founded in 2005, Paso Pacífico aims to restore and protect endangered dry tropical forest and coastal ecosystems in Nicaragua. By working with local communities, landowners, and partner organizations, we restore and protect the habitats that form building blocks for wildlife corridors. Paso Pacífico is led by Executive Director and Ashoka Fellow Sarah Otterstrom.

Job Description

We are looking for a Development and Fundraising Intern to assist our Ventura office over the summer months. This intern will shadow our Development Director in her daily tasks, learning about and assisting the organization in fundraising strategies in a professional environment. Additionally, this intern will be responsible for assisting with various tasks around the office. An ideal applicant will have strong communication and organizational skills. Those looking for the opportunity to learn about nonprofit expansion and development as well as gain experience using top fundraising platforms (i.e. Classy) are encouraged to apply. This is an unpaid internship.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work with our Development Director to create a strategy for expanding the outreach of our monthly newsletter
  • Attend local tabling events to help promote the organization
  • Help to optimize efficiency of online fundraising
  • Help prepare mailings and appeals
  • Organize print materials available for donors including cards, photos, pamphlets, news items
  • Support development director with donor correspondence
  • Help to plan a cocktail fundraising event

Required Skills and Characteristics

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft software (Excel, Word)
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Positive attitude, creativity, and willingness to learn
  • Pays attention to detail

Preferred Skills and Characteristics

  • Spanish (basic to fluent)
  • Background knowledge in issues of biodiversity conservation and community development
  • Basic knowledge of fundraising
  • Clear and aesthetically pleasing handwriting
