Description

Go Where Your Needed!

Maryland 4-H has a mission to provide a supportive and inclusive setting for all youth to reach their fullest potential in a diverse society. Youth ages 5-18 learn beneficial and cognitive life skills through community focused, research-based experiential education programs. Maryland 4-H has a vision to be a recognized leading youth development program that inspires youth and adults to learn, grow and work together as catalyst for positive change. In 2017, Maryland 4-H served over 73,000 youth within all 23 counties and Baltimore City. Nationally, there has been discourse calling for the renewal of engagement and inclusion of more diversity within 4-H and other Extension programs. National 4-H has strategic goals to: ensure youth culture is incorporated into program design, implementation and evaluation, increase participants from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, deliver programs that are linguistically and culturally relevant and support a positive youth development approach that embodies inclusivity.

The Maryland 4-H VISTA will work with the Maryland 4-H program to establish and/or enhance programmatic outreach strategies to increase diversity and inclusivity of Maryland’s youth and volunteer participant base. As a result, all 23 counties and Baltimore city will have additional resources, programmatic partners, and grant dollars to increase diverse and inclusive program (science, healthy living, and civic engagement) programs.
