Saya Institute is seeking candidates to serve as its Treasurer.

 

This is a unique opportunity to offer your time and talent to a private foundation supporting crisis management, conflict resolution and peacebuilding efforts across Africa.

 

Saya Institute is a registered 501(c)(3) private foundation supporting crisis management, conflict resolution and peacebuilding efforts across Africa. Our programs are presently focused on Ethiopia, Somalia and South Sudan.

 

Saya Institute was incorporated in Kansas in 2015 and is a philanthropic initiative of Saya International Corporation.


Position Description:

 

Saya Institute is seeking a volunteer to serve as Treasurer. The Treasurer will be appointed by the Board of Directors and is expected to understand and commit to Saya Institute’s mission, charter, and other foundational documents. The Secretary is a position that oversees and reports on the organization’s finances.

 

The Treasurer monitors and reports on the organization’s financial condition and affairs. The Treasurer ensures the Board of Directors is fully aware of the organization’s finances and fiscal position so that the Board may fulfill their fiduciary obligations for the organization. The Treasurer also helps ensure the organization establishes and follows an adequate Corporate Compliance program and internal controls. The Treasurer works closely with the President and fiscal staff to develop and present to the Board of Directors the annual budget. The Treasurer reports to the President.

 

Responsibilities

 

1.   Assists in the preparation of the budget.

2.   Monitors the budget.

3.   Ensures the Board's financial policies are being followed.

4.   Reports to the Board of Directors and general membership on finances.

5.   Prepares any required financial reporting forms.

6.   Oversees all bank accounts.

7.   Oversees the systems for processing, approving and recording all financial transactions.

8.   Treasurer's signature should appear on all checks of the organization above the threshold.

Remuneration:

 

This is a remote, volunteer, part-time position without remuneration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs in relation to the Treasurer’s duties including attending Board of Directors meetings and visiting our program locations. Board meetings will be held at either our principal executive office in Abilene, Kansas or representative office in Washington, D.C.
