Seychelles Island Conservation Volunteer Programme
- Volunteer Opportunity posted by WorkingAbroad Projects
Full time (30+ hrs/wk)
Short-Term (few weeks/months)
Grand Anse Praslin
This programme offers a rare opportunity to work with a well-renowned conservation organisation on Cousin Island in the Seychelles, which has been central to the further protection and survival of rare wildlife species.
Depending on the time of year, you can take part in wildlife conservation efforts such as Hawksbill turtle management, monitoring and ringing of large seabird and land bird populations, as well as census of tortoises, skinks and geckos. Next to this, you can be part of habitat conservation by removal of invasive species and planting of native plants and trees. Every day, you will be part of island management tasks, which also include guiding tourists around the island and talk about the conservation work that you are part of on Cousin Island.
Volunteers should be minimum 18 years, independent and with the ability to work in hard conditions with a positive attitude, and able to work in teams.
You will during your 4-week volunteer period be part of an everlasting conservation movement in the Seychelles, and:
1. Learn valuable skills from being part of a pristine island conservation programme
2. Immense yourself in the Seychellois culture and life
3. Have a lasting impact on the tropical wildlife conservation efforts that the programme is well-known for
4. Get to share your knowledge to tourists visiting the island
5. Contribute to work that has an ever-lasting effect on the communities that depend on it
