Time Commitment

A few hours per week

Short-Term (few weeks/months)

Located in East Oakland, Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project (ANV) focuses on elevating life in the inner-city by challenging oppressive dynamics and environments through urban farming. Founded and led by women of color from the surrounding neighborhood, ANV creates safe, outdoor spaces for children, youth, and their families to explore the natural world while strengthening their sense of community. With cooking and nutrition classes built into every program, ANV deepens campers’ understanding of healthy living and wellness in a neighborhood plagued by obesity and food insecurity. In addition to providing a fun, hands-on learning experience, ANV’s four farms supply year round seasonal vegetables to ANV’s camps, a CSA program, and several farm to table restaurants in the East Bay.

Position Summary

If you are task-oriented, enjoy working in a friendly, cooperative environment, and want to make a difference in your community, then contact us to volunteer with Acta Non Verba!

ANV’s quarter acre farm located in the City of Oakland’s Tassafaronga Park (83rd Ave & E Street, 94621) is planned, planted, harvested and sold by youth grades K-8. The entirety of the proceeds are placed into individual savings accounts for participating youths.

Our volunteers are an essential part of the ANV team. The farm volunteer will report to the Farm Manager and occasionally the Program Director. This position requires experience with basic gardening equipment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to growth and learning.

This listing is for a farm assistant, but ANV also needs volunteers in the following roles:
