Share your skills and lend a helping hand at a medical placement in Kathmandu. Rest assured that you'll make a difference: It's estimated that hundreds of thousands of Nepali people, especially women and children, suffer unnecessarily due to a lack of basic medical care. When you volunteer at a hospital or a local clinic you help provide a much needed service in one of the world's loveliest (and poorest!) countries. You also gain a firsthand insight into basic healthcare in a developing country: believe us, it's eye-opening! Pre-meds with relevant completed coursework, nursing students, medical students, and medical professionals are welcome to apply. Qualified students are sometimes invited to observe surgeries. This is one of ELI Abroad's most popular programs, and it quickly fills up during the summer. If you're interested, contact us today.
Dental: ELI Abroad partners with a prominent dental hospital in Kathmandu to create one-of-a-kind opportunities for dental volunteers. From time to time, volunteerss are also invited to assist with free dental camps for the poor.
When they're not working, ELI Abroad volunteers live in a lively group volunteer house located on a quiet Kathmandu side-street near the popular tourist area of Thamel. In their off-hours, on weekends or holidays they can explore this fascinating city, relax in its many restaurant and cafes, sightsee around nearby temples and villages and join treks into the stunning Himalayan foothills. Past participants call it, the adventure of a lifetime.
Please note, volunteers must be at least 18 years old or older at the time of their program.
