Volunteer with Behind the Book, a non-profit literacy organization that inspires New York City public school students to explore stories and empower their voices. Through our innovative programs, which are part of the class curricula, accomplished authors visit high-needs Pre-K-12th-grade classrooms to guide students in creating their own writing projects.

You need no experience or training. As a coach, you'll support and encourage students as they work on their projects.

This art workshop needs your help at a school in downtown Manhattan, NYC. To sign up, contact volunteer@behindthebook.org with the program code.

Program DL9MT-W

Date: Wednesday, May 22nd

Time: 2:00 - 3:40 PM (please arrive 15 minutes early for orientation)

About the program: Honor Girl by Maggie Thrash , a graphic memoir about the author's own experience as a young teen finding first love and first heartbreak, was the inspiration for ninth-graders to create their own mini-graphic novellas. Art coaches will engage and encourage groups as they work on their drawings.
