Counselor-in-Training (CIT) (Seasonal)

POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the general supervision of the Youth Programs Coordinator (Camp Director), and reporting to the Youth Programs Manager (Camp Administrator), the Summer Camp Counselor-in-Training position will build leadership skills while assisting with direct, hands-on camp support - such as assisting with preparation, set-up/clean-up, instruction, supervision assistance, and leadership for weekly camper groups of 8 - 30 youth ages 6-15 at Cascade Bicycle Club Summer Camps located at Magnuson Park and White Center. 

This is a seasonal (temporary) stipend position. Camps are held outdoors and require medium to strenuous physical demands. This position includes field-based responsibilities. The Counselor-in-Training contributes to youth programming for Cascade Bicycle Club, a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • CITs must participate in at least 3 weeks of camp, and may not exceed 4 weeks of camp. Camp runs July 9th - August 24th, 2018, plus training days. Must disclose during the interview process if a vacation has been planned. Please visit: cascade.org/camps for programming dates.
  • The mandatory training days for CITs are Wednesday, June 27th, 9am-5pm and Thursday, June 28th, 9am-5pm.
  • CITs must be 16 years of age or older and must submit an ‘Application for Interview’ before the deadline of 11:59 pm on April 30th
  • Interviews (20 mins) will be held April 28th, 9am-1pm, May 2nd, 4pm-8pm, and May 20th, 9am-1pm at Cascade Bicycle Club, 7787 62nd Ave. NE, Seattle WA 98199. 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Camp Head Counselors and Counselors in the guidance of individual campers and groups in participating in all camp activities
  • Assist in the supervision of all aspects of the camper’s day
  • Assist in co-teaching or co-leading activities as needed or assigned
  • Maintain good public relations with camp families, including parents, guardians and siblings
  • Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up responsibilities, appropriate riding behavior, respectful relationships and engagement
  • Other reasonable duties may be assigned as required by the camp staff

TRAITS NEEDED FOR SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE

  • Passion (and basic knowledge) for biking
  • A desire to learn and grow personally and professionally. Ability (and interest) in accepting supervision and guidance.
  • Stamina, patience and the ability to laugh
  • Integrity, a good attitude, optimism and flexibility
  • Commitment to clear communication and respectful relationships
  • Initiative or the desire to learn it
  • CPR and/or First Aid certification provided during training
  • Previous experience/s working with youth in a structured environment (such as other camps, service-type activities, sports programs, etc.) is a plus!

COMPENSATION

$100/wk Stipend
