Description

Do you want to assist in elevating literacy in DC? Literacy Volunteers and Advocates (LVA) is looking for volunteer tutors with a passion for reading. Your service will change a life. We want your drive and willingness to be a part of something great!

LVA provides a tutor training course (with a suggested $40 materials fee) to prepare our tutors to teach other adults, as working with adult literacy learners is a very special niche. After training, tutors are paired with learners to meet at times and public places in the District (i.e., libraries) that are mutually convenient.

We hold our training sessions every 6-8 weeks. Our next training session is being held on October 13, 2018.

Qualifications: Tutors should be at least 18 years of age with a minimum of a high school diploma and a love of reading. We ask that our pairs meet once per week for 1½ to 2 hours and commit to one year of service.
