Description

AmeriCorps Project YES!, a program of the Northwestern University Settlement House, connects caring adults with youth in the West Town community through mentorship, including educational, service, artistic, and recreational activities, to support their academic achievement.

Our 11th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Literacy Fair will be held on Monday, January 15th, 2018 from 10:00am- 1:00pm. The theme this year is "Knowledge is Power!” to encourage strength through literacy. This event allows members of the community to interact, learn, and have fun all while exploring different aspects of literacy.

Every participant will have the opportunity to partake in a variety of literacy-based activities, including games, arts and crafts, and creative writing! Participants will also be able to take home a book of their choosing and learn about the empowering nature of literacy. Families with readers of every age are encouraged to attend

Volunteers at our Literacy Fair will assist school age children in various literacy related arts and crafts, games (i.e. Mad Libs, Jeopardy, etc), and activities. We ask that all volunteers are over 18 and can stay the entire time of 9am-2pm. The fair ends at 1pm and is immediately followed by a thank you lunch for the volunteers.
