Board Director

Position Overview

The Director position is a part-time, voluntary job. The purpose of the Director position is to give the same care and concern to their board responsibilities as any prudent and ordinary person would. Also, the Director will place the interests of the SIAA ahead of interests that benefit themselves. Finally, the Director shall ensure the SIAA abides by all applicable laws and regulations and ensure the organization does not engage in illegal or unauthorized activities. Service on the SIAA’s Board of Directors is without financial compensation, except for pre-approved administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs related to Board Members’ duties.

Duties and responsibilities

The Board will support the work of the SIAA and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While SIAA’s President leads day-to-day operations, the Directors’ relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Specific Directors’ responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a trusted advisor to the President as they develop and implement the SIAA’s strategic plan
  • Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by the SIAA for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using
  • Approving the SIAA’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; meeting all legal and fiduciary responsibilities
  • Assisting the President in identifying and recruiting other Board Members, members, & volunteers
  • Partnering with the President and other board members to ensure the SIAA implements the board resolutions
  • Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments
  • Representing the SIAA to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization
  • Ensuring the SIAA’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities the SIAA serves

Qualifications

This position is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about the SIAA’s mission. Selected Board Members will have achieved leadership experience in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector. Their accomplishments will allow them to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members. Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Professional experience with leadership accomplishments and strategic management that met organizational goals & objectives
  • A commitment to issues and needs of SIAA’s beneficiaries and an interest in the core mission of the association
  • Demonstrate a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse stakeholders
  • Extensive professional social networks with leaders and champions in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the members’ social impact and the lives of its beneficiaries
