The Research & Policy Team’s mission is to provide research support to fill the needs of TCM’s organizing and policy campaigns. The team also helps to inform TCM’s overall strategy. Most research is centered around landscape and power structure analysis, policy development, and political economy, although the team also handles ad hoc research requests as they arise.

We are looking for highly skilled researchers with a passionate commitment to fighting the climate emergency. While government or activist research experience is preferred, all research backgrounds can contribute to the research team. The research team is closely connected to TCM’s campaigns; researchers work directly with organizers and activists, and oftentimes the research team’s suggestions play a significant role in determining the content and structure of bills brought before city councils and state legislatures.

If you are a talented researcher who’s terrified of climate change and ready to do meaningful work to preserve the future of humanity, you’re a perfect fit for the research and policy team.

  • Research and draft policy proposals for TCM’s official platform
  • Draft model legislation to be introduced to local governments
  • Work with on-the-ground organizers to answer research requests
  • Perform analyses of political, financial, and organizational landscapes
  • Write reports summarizing research findings
  • Develop advocacy materials for organizers

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience with academic or professional research, especially research focused on climate change, systems of government, law, political economy, power structures, sociology, environmental justice, organizing/activism, and intersectionality
  • Ability to condense complex information into succinct and readable memoranda
  • Insatiable enthusiasm for fighting the climate crisis
  • Commitment to TCM’s message of truth, urgency and inclusiveness
  • Excellent communication, research, and writing skills
  • Willing to work hard and meet deadlines
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
